IHS Markit is pleased to announce the v19.1 release of our Enterprise Data Management (EDM) software which is now generally available.
The highlights of this release are:
Import/Export Configuration
- Ability to export the EDM configuration and integrate it with any preferred third-party version control provider to create branches and resolve conflicts during merges.
- Configuration can be imported back into EDM, allowing users to easily promote code or work across multiple branches of EDM.
- To enable merging, XML definition files produced by EDM have been simplified and the hash validation removed, allowing for modification outside of EDM.
- Import/export can be done either via the command line or via a new Import Export Configuration wizard which guides the user through the process.
For more details, read the Import/Export Configuration guide.
Add Attribute Wizard
- Add Attribute Wizard has been completely redesigned and enhanced to make the process of adding attributes much quicker and simpler.
- New wizard allows EDM users to add attributes to any group of tables within the EDM database, either from a Data Constructor (current method) or from tables manually selected by the user.
- All component dependencies are followed, and rules and validation tests can be cloned for the new attributes.
- SQL statements that include the adjusted tables can be viewed and customized where needed.
- Ability to skip or correct component configuration to ensure successful completion.
- Minimal manual configuration post completion and ability to roll back and fix issues if necessary.
For more details, read the Add Attribute Wizard user guide.
Map UI Element
- New Map UI element allows users to display a map in the EDM web UI, overlaid with user-defined points and features.
- Configurable in the EDM thick client, feeding data from any database tables, as well as GeoJSON files.
- Map elements can be placed into pages and workflows for web UI display, and then exported as image files from the web UI.
- Data points display individually and in clusters, as well as within selected objects on the map.
- Complements the Blue Marble coordinate conversion work allowing users to see the spatial relationships of data stored within EDM.
For more details, read the Map UI Element user guide.
Core Matcher
- Default condition of match attributes displays in the Match Conditions tab of the Core Matcher thick-client configuration, as well as in the Show Match Conditions tab of the Configuration UI element.
- The match, core record and results details grids in the Core Matcher web UI can be exported to Excel.
- Ability to show/hide, reorder, sort, filter and lock/unlock columns in the Source and Core Record History Detail modals.
- New Bulk Realign tool in the Match Results Details, Core Record Details and Results Details grids allows users to realign source records to core records in bulk.
- Improvements to internal memory management reduce the chance of out-of-memory exceptions, and optimized scoring processing leads to shorter execution times.
For more details, read the Core Matcher user guide.
Page Designer
- Visual improvements to the page designer in the EDM thick client provide a more intuitive user experience:
- New horizontal and vertical grid lines in a different color
- Horizontal and vertical page ruler
- Tooltip displaying an element's dimensions and updating when the element is resized.
For more details, read the UI Page user guide.
Data Generator
- New Clear Filters option in the web UI Data Generator Inbox grid toolbar.
- Ability to apply filters to a web UI Data Generator Inbox and display value distribution results based on the filtered data set.
- Position of adding new rows to the Data Generator Inbox has been updated to now appear at the bottom of the grid.
For more details, read the Data Generator user guide.
Workflow Debug Modal
- Workflow Debug modal in the web UI has been updated to also show any variables in use that are held within nested workflow elements. Previously, only variables of the parent workflow were shown.
Dynamic Element
- When creating a new dynamic element in the EDM thick client and adding underlying elements or pages that contain multiple elements, the parameters that have been enabled on the underlying child elements are automatically enabled in the parent dynamic element.
Table Builder/Designer
- Table Builder and Table Designer have been redesigned to allow users to quickly add new rows without prompting the New Field Specification dialog, as well as add rows in bulk.
- Tables and data are no longer deleted from the database in case of errors during promotion of changes to Table Builders.
Data Flow Sequence
- One or more steps in a Data Flow Sequence can now be disabled via a new Disable Step option, allowing the Data Flow to bypass them at run time.
Verify and Create Wizard
- Verify and Create Wizard notifications have been updated so users are prompted to manually save changes to any open processes before the wizard starts running and automatically closes all open components.
Other Changes
- Data Porter and Data Flow components can read from and write to an Oracle table that contains a Geometry spatial data type.
- Expanded segments in a pie/doughnut chart can be closed and the associated output parameters automatically cleared.
- Data type selection list now displays in alphabetical order.
- Any HTML/data templates added to the EDM Document Object Model (DOM) tree will be removed when switching to another workflow or logging out from EDM to ensure performance is not degraded in time.
Deprecations
- Old binary code has been removed from EDM, so any clients on a EDM version earlier than v7.5 will not be able to upgrade directly to v19.1, but will have to upgrade to an earlier version first.
- The parameter to enable legacy grids has been removed in EDM v19.1, so all customers on v19.1 will need to use the HTML5 grids.
- From v19.1 onwards, EDM users attempting to log into the EDM web UI via Internet Explorer 11 will be prompted to use an alternative web browser.
- With the introduction of the Import/Export Configuration capability in EDM v19.1, all integrated Version Control options apart from Database are now deprecated. These include: File System, Source Safe 2005, Subversion 1.7 and 1.8, Team Foundation Server 2010, 2013 and 2015.
